|San Roque School: Increasing contributions and school awareness|
Editor’s note: Champion Kevin R., the director of development for San Roque School, shares his experience using OneCause, the new home of Schoolpop, to increase contributions and raise awareness about this private elementary school in its Santa Barbara, Calif. community. His Supporters have already contributed over $3,000 through their everyday shopping, and are well on their way to reaching a contribution goal of $5,000.
> Question: How does San Roque School use its OneCause contributions?
Answer: Funds from OneCause have supported our yearbook program, so every student could receive a yearbook for no charge. Moving forward, our long-term goal is to support field trip fees for deserving students and families.
> Question: What is your current OneCause contribution goal?
Answer: Our goal is to reach $5,000.
> Question: What resources will you use to reach that contribution goal?
Answer: 2007 was our first year with OneCause and much of our efforts were conducted through personal referrals from parent volunteers. This upcoming year, we plan to distribute flyers toward a concentrated advertising campaign to reach the broader community. The campaign will include ready-made materials from OneCause.
> Question: What best practices can you offer to other school Supporters and Champions?
Answer: My suggestion would be for a school or organization to recruit a volunteer to coordinate and administer the OneCause program. Volunteers can be the best ambassadors for any organization, and their power of influence can have far more of an impact toward participation and support.
> Question: What do you and your Supporters like most about OneCause?
Answer: OneCause is by far our most successful fundraising campaign because the cost/profit ratio is quite low. In addition, the variety of retailers like Nordstrom, Lands’ End® and Sears offers our community various opportunities to support the school through everyday shopping experiences.
